Mini Lamb Pides

Eli is loving meat at the moment. I can't seem to give him enough 😅 lamb is in season and is something Eli rarely eats. I therefore tried him with a lamb pide.

I was brought up on pides / lahmacans and they are very nostalgic.

Why I love these:

  • Simple yoghurt dough that stays soft and is easy for kids to eat

  • Lamb is a great source of protein, iron, zinc, and vitamin B12, all important nutrients for growth and energy

  • Red meat provides haem iron, which is more easily absorbed than plant-based iron sources

  • Easy to add vegetables into the filling if needed

  • Great for batch cooking and freezing

  • Ideal for picnics and lunchboxes 🧺

  • Flexible—try different fillings like cheese & za’atar or spinach & pine nuts

Ingredients (4 mini Pides)

For the dough

  • mix together 60g strong white flour, 50ml full fat yoghurt, 1/4 tsp baking powder and a pinch of salt.

  • Knead well for a couple of mins and roll into a ball.

  • Cover the dough with some olive oil and cover for 30 mins.

For the filling

  • 50g lamb mince

  • 1/2 tsp tomato puree

  • 1/4 tsp ground coriander

  • 1/4 tsp ground cumin

  • 1/5 red pepper, diced small

  • 1 handful parsley, chopped

Method

  • Mix everything together to make a paste.

  • Roll out dough. Divide into 4.

  • Make 4 mini 'boats' and fold over the edges.

  • Add to an oiled baking tray. Add filling.

  • Bake at 220c for 8-10 mins, until the base is cooked thoroughly / meat is cooked.

I served mine with some cucumber raita and crunchy vegetables

Delicious! 🤤
